Images for first draft
This image incorporates the acoustic guitar with the scraggy shoes and the pose shows a chilled out atmosphere to show how this genre of music is made.
This shows her love of music with the way she is hugging her guitar to show her love for this instrument and for the music she makes.
This is a comedic image of the artist which could have been a possible contender for the double page spread. This would show the fun, humorous artist behind the music.
This is a mimic of the Ed Sheeran photograph which he has with the word 'hi' on his tongue.
This image shows the vulnerable side of the like she has nothing to hide.
This is the conventional pose for most models on a magazine and one which shows the friendly and down to earth side of the artist.
This pose may be more 'unladylike' and show a no nonsense approach to life.
Another friendly pose which may be another conventional model pose
The head tilt to the side is yet another conventional pose and one which shows a connection with the audience as she builds eye contact with the audience.
This would have been a picture either in the contents page or double page to show the love between the artist and her fans. The shadow of it shows just the heart as the main focus of the picture.

Mock ups
These are mock ups which I created using found images off the Internet. The layouts I have chosen I may use in my draft of my music magazine and therefore find that these mock ups help to see what my own music magazine will look like.

Price and Publishing
The price depends on two things. How frequently is the magazine to be published? weekly, monthly etc and how much can the target audience afford? I have decided that I will publish my magazine weekly which will allow me to incorporate current news in the magazine which will still be current when published. With the magazine being published weekly and my target audience being teens to twenties, I will have to price the magazine quite low.
From doing market research into music magazines I have found out:
Spin magazine is $3.99 which converts to £2.54 in pounds sterling
NME magazine is priced at £2.20
With this information I decided to price my magazine at £2.10 as this is a competitive price for the weekly magazines that are already out there. Also, for my target audience this is variably cheaper and will include the same amount of information than the other magazines, therefore making it a cheaper but better option.

Second front cover analysis
Language: The title of the magazine is "The Fly". My interpretation of why it could be named as such because the magazine focuses on new and upcoming artists/bands that wish to fly and prosper in the music industry. The main cover line "Laura Marling" is the name of the artist which is featured on the front cover and therefore creates anchorage between the image and the cover line. The main image of the magazine is of the artist Laura Marling. In the image she is not made up with make up or has hair extensions, she looks natural and shows off her natural beauty. She wants to be like her music. One critic said of acoustic music "When music is labeled acoustic, unplugged, or unwired, the assumption seems to be that other types of music are cluttered by technology and overproduction and therefore aren't as pure." This could be why she doesn't have the make up or bouffant hair, because she wants to look pure. The website at the top left of the page allows the reader to access more information on the Internet and therefore could expand readership of the magazine. Also with the URL being in the left third, potential readers can see the website even if it is stacked in a magazine stand. The skyline under the main cover line gives more information about the artist featured on the magazine, saying she is the "first lady of folk", which shows us what genre of music she creates and also allows people to see whether or not they would be interested in the article. The other sell lines are of other bands/artists which are featured in the magazine which further emphasizes that this magazine features folk, acoustic indie music.
Institution: "THE FLY" is published by, and is the copyright of, MAMA Group Limited
Ideology: The ideology behind the magazine is to show what up and coming artists are arriving on the music scene in this particular genre and the main image makes sure that people know that it's artists are true and pure and not tangoed wannabe popstars. With the magazine being free it also shows that they want anyone to read it and to show people what great talent is out there. Nobody can resist anything that is free.
Audience: The audience for the magazine would be teens to late twenties with an interest in this particular music genre. I got this by the artists which are featured on the magazine cover and from where it is stocked. When looking at where you could find this magazine in Hull I found that you could find it at:
> HMV
> The Adelphi
> The Lamp
> The Ringside
> The Welly Club
> Hull University
With this I can see what the target audience for this magazine is. With it being in nightclubs and the university I can see that it is for teens to twenties.
Representation: The representation of the magazine is to showcase true, pure talent on its cover. The cover itself is very simple and could suggest that they just want to focus on the artist and their music and not on the showiness and the social life. Its just all about the music. The use if the neutral colours can also correspond to the pureness of the music and artist, it's not too bright or brash.

Second double page spread analysis
Language: With the title of the article being "picture perfect" this could give the impression that the band wants to be seen as a 'perfect' band. This could say how they make their music, they strive for perfection. The title could also coincide with the image as the image seems somewhat staged and done in such a way to make them seem 'perfect'. The introduction to the article gives the reader background information of the band and briefly tells the reader what the article will be about, in this case "...whatever you do, don't say TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB sound like The Wombats...". Going back to the main image and the idea of it being staged, the image could come across as comical as they are seen eating at a picnic, but with glum faces. The name of the band "TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB" is written in capitals and is written in the style recognised by the public and their fans as this is the way it is always written in everything they are featured in.
Institution: "THE FLY" is published by, and is the copyright of, MAMA Group Limited.
Ideology: The ideology behind this double page spread is to inform readers of the band and give information about the band which they mind find interesting and intrusive. Fans of any band want to know the gory details, and so with these types of articles they can find out more about their favourite band and their daily habits, which then makes the band more popular and ultimately gets them to sell more singles, albums and merchandise.
Audience: The audience would be teens to mid-twenties as this is the age group in which listen to the band in the article. As the band is quite and new and modern band, this age group tend to be more in the know about up and coming bands than any other age group. Also the audience will be people who like their indie-pop type of music which the band featured creates because they will be the ones most interested in this article.
Representation: The image of the band represents their serious, yet slightly comical nature and to express how they create their music. The fact that their trademark named logo is incorporated suggests that they are already known in the music world and represents their serious nature to become bigger in the industry. The whole article represents a band that is striving to achieve.
Second contents page analysis
Language: The language used in this contents page are the titles of the articles and the references of where to find them. With the article titles, some of them are quite simple and state what you would expect to see on the page, however some show a different side, such as: "The Quatro with John Kerrison". When researching this I found that it is a regular feature about the current news of the time. This is quite an interesting article as it is someones viewpoint in current issues to do with music. The page title show you what the current issue if the magazine is and tells you it is a contents page.
Institution: "THE FLY" is published by, and is the copyright of, MAMA Group Limited
Ideology: The ideology behind this contents page is to show what the magazine has to offer in terms of articles and artists. It tries to offer a wide selection of bands and artists within the particluar genre to appeal to a potential buyer and also with the inclusion of the regular articles, tries to gain customer loyalty.
Audience: The audience for the magazine would be teens to twenties. I can see this because when researching the magazine I found that you can pick up a copy at various, popular nightclubs in Hull, and also at the University, whihc to me says that it targets the younger age group. Also, lesser known bands, the younger people tend to know a lot more about them than older people as the use of social networking sites and youtube become widly used.
Representation: The representation of this contents page is to show that the most important article is the one that is shown on the front cover, but also is shown by the image on the contents page as the image is the most dominant of the page.
