L.I.I.A.R ANALYSIS

Language: the title of the magazine 'College' tells us that the magazine is at aimed at college students. The masthead is quite large which shows how important college is not only to the institution but to the students as well. The main cover line " NYC'S Fresher Fashion CEO" uses alliteration to make the cover line snappy and interesting. The cover line connects with the image in that the woman is the CEO and one of her fashion pieces is behind her to make sure the reader sees the anchorage. Also another cover line is "ABC's Family Greek" which refers to an upcoming TV programme about college life. The use of colour for the word Greek and making it larger than the text surrounding it suggest that the institution wanted the word to be noticed. The use of the '∑' for the letter 'e' relates to the college houses.

Institution: The institution of the magazine is the college itself. They produce the magazine and therefore decide which articles will be featured and which wont. If a major publishing company published this magazine, they would lose money as there wont be enough readers to make them a profit. Keeping it low scale and within the college will make the magazine more successful with the college students.

Ideology:  The ideology behind this magazine is to show the students of the college what they could achieve if they put there mind to it, with the image of the woman and one of her fashion pieces. This will attract students to read more and to find out how they could be successful just like her.

Audience: The audience of this magazine is generally students because as the title suggests 'college' this magazine is solely based for college students. Although it may not have to be the students of a specific college. Other students from other colleges may be interested in the magazine as it may raise some issues that they would be interested about.

Representation: The magazine represents the achievement ion which the college students could rise to. With the main cover line being linked with the success of a former college student it shows how anyone can achieve what they want in life. The fact that the title of the magazine is 'College' shows that you can achieve your dream by going to college and learning the right skills to achieve. It also shows how education and commitment is important to ensure success.
